Primary Teacher Scholarships

The Temple Grove Farmington Teacher Scholarships are for teachers who wish to undertake school-based research in primary education.

The scholarship offers recipients that chance to implement school-based research and in doing so to influence school or departmental best practice.  TGF Scholars will ideally align their research with departmental or school priorities in one of the following focus areas:

  • Improving pedagogy using evidence-informed practice

  • Curriculum development

  • Child development

  • Subject-specific exam interventions

  • Enrichment: expanding pupils’ learning outside the confines of the academic curriculum

The scholarships are jointly awarded by the Temple Grove Schools Trust and the Farmington Institute.

Temple Grove Schools Trust will pay for a replacement teacher for up to 30 days, will pay research costs, and will pay for a supervisor, whose sole responsibility is to provide guidance, encouragement and support for the teacher.

There are three conditions attached to the scholarship:

  1. The recipient needs to write a report on the project

  2. Attend a short conference

  3. Give a public presentation

We then share these research findings within the education sector.

How the Scholarships work

Scholarships are divided into two types: university-based and school/home-based.  Teachers who live within a reasonable distance of one of the selected universities or colleges may be awarded a university-based Scholarship, if they wish to apply for one. All scholars are paired with a local tutor/mentor.

Scholarships take the form of day release from teaching for up to 30 days. University based Scholarships are taken within university terms.  The academic facilities of the universities/colleges are available for university-based Scholars.

The Scholarship may be taken flexibly: some scholars take one day a week over a term or over the year; others take continuous periods, up to the maximum of 30 days, depending on the operational needs of the school.
